Dear SSAA(HK) Members:

Links to two stories below may have caught your attention regarding the ongoing enquiry into "The Big Fire" of 2016.

The headlines today cite a British expert who puts the blame on the FSD for specific failures on the day AND a 'macho' culture for the events that lead to the deaths of the two firemen.

If your staff or customers are asking about the recent news, we would recommend:

1) Do not take this as an opportunity to speak to media with a message of, "See?! Not our fault and the regulations that came after weren't justified!!"

While tempting, this kind of messaging can be turned around to make members of our industry look like we don't care about fire safety. Which, of course, we do care and take regulations and public and staff safety very seriously.

2) Keep in mind that the enquiry still has some time to go and more factors could come to light. If asked, it is probably better to defer responding to media questions until the enquiry is finished. (i.e., just say "No comment for now and we are carefully watching the enquiry.")

This is probably the line you should communicate to your staff in case they are getting questions. Probably rarely, but just in case.

今天的頭條新聞引用了一位英國消防專家，他指出消防處在火災首日（2016年6月21日）的救火策略有誤，以及處方差劣的戰術、「大男人氣概」的組織文化及通訊問題促成了今次事故。

如果你的員工或客戶詢問最近的新聞，我們建議：

1) 不要以此為契機向媒體發表這樣的信息：“看到了嗎？！不是我們的錯，之後的規定是不合理！”

雖然很誘人，但這種信息可以反過來讓我們看起來不關心消防安全。當然，我們非常關心和重視法規以及公眾和員工的安全。

2) 請記住，調查還有一段時間，更多的因素可能會浮出水面。如果被問到，最好推遲回答媒體問題，直到調查完成。 （暫時只需說“暫時不發表評論，我們正在仔細觀察調查。”）

暫時我們從各會員口中得知媒體並未訪問各迷你倉訪問的員工，但你的員工亦應該這樣回應媒體的提問，以防以防萬一。
